Biography

I spend a lot of time in the woods skiing and hiking. Often I find scenes I wish to recreate in paint when adventuring in the outdoors.  I enjoy chasing the seasonal light of Vermont in oils and watercolors.

Plein air painting (French for open air) is how I create my watercolors. I find spontaneity by painting what my eye directly sees. When traveling I bring my paints to record the landscapes.

Oil painting is my studio medium of choice. The intensity of the pigments and the fluidity of the paint lends itself to dramatic effects. I create my designs from studies, color theory, and imagination.

I was born in Hanover, NH and grew up in the Upper Valley Region. Art and skiing were early interests for my twin sister, Saskia and I.  We both have continued to make these priorities in our day to day lives. My sister resides in Maine.

I earned my BFA from the University of Maine. This was also the time in my life that I mastered the Zen of skiing telemark at Sugarloaf.

Before graduating I spent 9 months in Florence, Italy studying under Silvia Fossati at Studio Giambo. I was immersed in fresco painting, mosaics, wheel, hand-building, maiolica decoration, and glass fusion.

Over the years, I have completed many commissions; murals, paintings, mosaics, stained glass, and Italian plaster finishes.

I also love to teach art. My sister and I wrote many grants to bring youth mural projects to schools and community centers. I have worked at art centers teaching a myriad of subjects to all ages from Maine to Hawaii. Currently I offer regular paint night classes and stained glass workshops in Vermont.

I lived in Hawaii for 2 years. Lanai is a rural island, making it an amazing place to live, paint, and teach. The lure of changing seasons and our families brought us home to New England. My husband and I have been living slopeside at Bolton Valley Resort for the last 11 years.

My studio is located at Bolton Valley, visitors are welcome by appointment. Private or group lessons are available upon request in painting, stained glass, and screen printing. I welcome painting commissions.

My painting, prints, and cards are available for sale at The Vermont Frame Game, Stowe Street Cafe, Northwood Artisans Gallery, The Skinny Pancake in Hanover, Sweet Simones, and at Bolton Valley Resort. I welcome painting commissions.
